Obamacare: A Bigger Threat to the American Public Than Bathsalts?

Today was an exceptionally sad day for America: Obamacare was ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court with a 5:4 vote in favor of upholding it. This decision comes as a shock as many conservatives expected the court to side against the statute.

Here are the players: Justices Kagan, Sotomayor, Ginsburg, Breyer and Roberts all voted in favor of it with Justices Thomas, Scalia, Kennedy and Alito dissenting. The kicker here was that Roberts, who was appointed by Bush II and was expected to vote against the bill, ended up being the deciding vote in ruling it constitutional. There has been some speculation that his decision was a strategic move to cause the public to in November overhaul congress and put in people who will vote in a way that reflects the wishes of their constituents. That's really doubtful though. Seemingly, his motivation was an attempt to distance the SCOTUS from being overtly political and look at the bill from a purely constitutional stand point. His vote forces the issue to again take center stage come November. Currently the biggest crisis facing the United States is job creation and building a more prosperous economy, but now the American public and lawmakers alike are being forced to expend even more energy and time bickering over this bill. This is why there are a number of political pundits arguing for the Justices to be more partisan.

As for the people who believe that this bill is "good" or the Court's ruling is "not a big issue" or want to babble on about "Ron Paul! 4/20", I just want to slap and shake you. Do you not understand that with the passage of this not only are your rights to choose what you do with your own body being taken away (Yeah all you pro-choicers- big brother is taking away your choice on what to do with your own body. Think about that.) but the government will effectively control 50% of the economy. You think the economy is more important than healthcare? They're interrelated. With the implementation of this you're inviting bureaucracy of DMV proportions into your gastroenterologist's, gynecologist's and cardiologist's offices. I don't know about you, but if I'm in one of those places I want things to move quick like a bunny.

As far as this being "constitutional": This was ruled constitutional because ti was considered a tax and Congress is within its rights to levy a tax. I repeat: IT WAS ONLY RULED CONSTITUTIONAL BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED A TAX. So allow me to say that in order for Justice Roberts to join the majority and rule the bill constitutional he had to make a liar of President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid who all went to great lengths to assure the American public that this was not a tax.

Furthermore in regards to a tax here is a brilliant quote form the dissenting opinion of Justice Scalia:

For all these reasons, to say that the Individual Mandate merely imposes a tax is not to interpret the statute but to rewrite it. Judicial tax-writing is particularly troubling. Taxes have never been popular, see, e.g., Stamp Act of 1765, and in part for that reason, the Constitution requires tax increases to originate in the House of Representatives.  See Art. I, §7, cl. 1.  That is to say, they must originate in the legislative body most accountable to the people, where legislators must weigh the need for the tax  against the terrible price they might pay at their next election, which is never more than two years off.

The Obama administration has strategically maneuvered this bill from the start to get it passed despite the outpouring of distaste for the bill from the public with little to no accountability for those responsible. The bill passed in the Senate with a vote of 60-39 and in the House passed only by a margin of 7 with a vote of 219-212.

A DNC staffer in a moment of pure professionalism tweets about his excitement

Why this is good: (Trying to be optimistic.) People are mad. Really mad. This could be the push needed to get Barack Hussein Obama out of the White House. While he spends his days trying to grab any vote he can (Supporting gay marriage, granting illegals amnesty, alluding to legalizing marijuana), he just does not have the popularity he had last election. Mitt Romney came out today following the decision and basically promised to start working to appeal this bill before Obama has gotten a chance to clean out his closet at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

And as far as those in Washington who voted for this when it came to congress whining about receiving a number of angry phone calls in regards to the congressional decisions before and the SCOTUS decision today:
Couldn't have said it better myself, Red.

The Food Stamp Vexation

Yes, this is real... It was found in the parking lot of a grocery store.

Currently the USDA is mounting a campaign to raise the number of people on food stamps in the United States. You heard that right: Despite the fact that there are more Americans than ever on food stamps currently, the government wants there to be more. The same government that by year's end will likely have added $1trillion to the national debt. Last year alone the United states government spent $75 billion on food stamps.
The Current plan is for the government to spend $2.5-3 million dollars on advertisements and PSA's advising those who are eligible to receive food stamps but do not yet to apply for the government safety net program. Currently, 1 in 7 Americans are on foodstamps, amounting to approximately 46 million people. However, it is estimated that around 1/4 of the people eligible have not applied to receive them for various reasons. This campaign is meant to target minorities, the unemployed and the elderly.
Go to 1:50
Why this is bad:
Food stamps, for those who absolutely need them, are meant to act as a temporary way for families to obtain the food that they need. However, by marketing it in the way that the government has, it is becoming a means of obtaining food that people are coming to rely on for longer durations of time than originally intended. Also, initially food stamps were meant to provide the basic forms of sustenance that a person needed in a healthy diet, but the definition of what constitutes food has expanded drastically. Full list of eligible "food" here.

Soft drinks, candy, cookies, cakes and energy drinks being covered by food stamps is ridiculous. Their nutritional value, if any, is superseded by these items' negative aspects such as an abundance of sugar and fat. I refuse to even comment on the stupidity of allowing a gift basket to be purchased using food stamps. Also, allowing seafood and steaks (luxury items so to speak) to be purchased, the wrong message is being sent.

In conclusion, I think food stamps are great when used correctly. For a family going through a tough time it is important that they have the means to feed themselves and not worry about putting food on the table. However when food stamps are buying things such as holiday gift baskets and energy drinks I have an issue with that. This does not encourage the recipient to strive to get away from government dependency. The day I lost faith in how food stamps are currently dealt with was the day that I stood in line at the grocery store with a cart full of Lean Cuisines and watched someone pay for two giant steaks and crawfish with food stamps. Glad to see that rather than attempt to encourage people to get away form using food stamps we're encouraging more people to apply for them.

Michael Moore: An Anti-Love Story

Michael Moore's Oscar's acceptance speech for his documentary Bowling for Columbine- is Hollywood actually booing an obnoxious liberal?? Why I neva!

In 2004, I was 12 years old. This was also the year that the film that uncovered the "conspiracy of 9/11" came out. Despite being only 12, I was quite mature for my age so my parents took me out one evening and let me see my very first rated R movie in the theaters. I remember it like it was yesterday: Little me stood there in line for tickets at the Magnolia theater in West Village in my little crop pants and brand new pink tank top from Limited Too that had a sassy cat emblazoned on the front with the words "Purrrrrfect" written in cursive script beneath it. (I was a cocky kid) I looked like I was ready to go see Finding Nemo. But no- I was going to see Fahrenheit 9/11. I sincerely believe that had my parents not taken me to see this film that the trajectory of my life would be drastically different. Walking out of that theater I knew that my ideas about politics and the liberal media had been irrevocably shaped and that I wanted to be part of the political machine. Of course, it was not until my foray into the arena during the 2008 presidential campaign that I really discovered just how passionate I was about politics and social change. Had I not been instilled with this message so early on, by the time I reached college I probably would have buckled to my dad's demands that I get a business degree. I would have been miserable. Michael Moore; I hate you but thank you.

Michael Moore: You know him and you probably hate him. He is the director of such films as Fahrenheit 911, Sicko and Bowling for Columbine. He is repugnant in every sense of the word. In recent memory, he is thought to be the quintessential left wing liberal with socialist ideologies seething from every pore of his pasty, portly body. Moore, upon initial inspection, seems to be simply a man that brings out the Marshall Eriksen slapping abilities in a vast majority of the American population regardless of political affiliation,  but further investigation uncovers that he is actually a combination of a working class, unionized upbringing and an insecure, narcissistic personality. Why is he on all the covers of his movies? If I were him I'd only be on camera if they put a shadow on my face or pixelated it...

Michael Moore was born in Flint, Michigan in 1954 to a working class family family deeply rooted in both General Motors and  the corresponding unions. Raised Roman Catholic, Moore still claims he is affiliated with the church but is in dissent on some issues such as same-sex marriage and abortion (surprise surprise). Following the Columbine shootings, Moore became a member of the NRA with the hope that he would be able to rise in its ranks to president and eventually dismantle it. However after realizing that this ascension and subsequent destruction of the group would necessitate more than the energy necessary for a walk to the refrigerator, he gave up hope citing it as too difficult.

Not to get bogged down by Moore's numerous positions held (both working class and in Hollywood), Moore is best known as a documentary film director with out spoken political views. He considers himself to be a "citizen of democracy" rather than a political activist (as most would label him) as he feels that he is merely speaking for the majority of Americans. Moore has in the past supported Ralph Nader and Barack Obama. He is also an open supporter of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Basically, aside from Bill Maher this is the most annoying liberal out there. I am prepared to make that claim and stake my name on it. The following are just a few choice quotes of his:

"(Americans) are possibly the dumbest people on the planet ... in thrall to conniving, thieving, smug pr*cks. We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We don't know about anything that's happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing."

"There is no terrorist threat in this country. This is a lie. This is the biggest lie we've been told."

"The Patriot Act is the first step. "Mein Kampf" -- "Mein Kampf" was written long before Hitler came to power. And if the people of Germany had done something early on to stop these early signs, when the right-wing, when the extremists such as yourself, decide that this is the way to go, if people don't speak up against this, you end up with something like they had in Germany. I don't want to get to that point."

"I think the United States, I think our government knows where (Bin Laden) is and I don't think we're going to be capturing him or killing him any time soon."

"I want him [Bush] paraded in handcuffs outside a police house as a common criminal because I don't know if there's a greater crime than taking people to war based on a lie. I've never seen anything like Bush and his people. They truly hate our constitution, our rights and liberties. They have no shame in fighting for their corporate sponsors."

Here is my beef with Moore:
Don't like capitalism? (Capitalism: A Love Story)- You're a millionaire because of it.
Don't like the American health system? (Sicko)- This is likely derived from your father's participation in unions and subsequent health care derived from his participation and your belief that it should be handed out like candy at a parade to anyone who wants it, but your alternative of socialized healthcare is idiotic on a number of levels and will be adressed in a later column. (Also you're going to be spending ALOT of the money you got from living in a capitalist society since you look like the fat guy from Austin Powers. A socialized medicine state would let your fat a** die rathe than spend the money it would take to keep you from stroking out homeboy.
Don't like America? MOVE. You cannot say you are speaking for the American people and doing so because you love America then bash America overseas.

**Currently watching Michael Moore Hates America- Highly recommend!

Celebrities With Too Much Money and No Sense Campaigning

Like most every other girl under 50, I am quite obsessed with Sex and the City. I own every season on DVD and watch it whenever I see a rerun on E!. My love for this show has absolutely nothing to do with Sarah Jessica Parker's character however. Her character was like nails on a chalk board for me. The wart she has on her face reminds me of a witch, she's needy (seriously the girl could not go 3 seconds without latching onto some middle-aged guy), self absorbed and dressed like a whack job. My hatred for her was exponentially increased after seeing the following video:

My Little Pony will be allowing 2 mere mortals a chance to rub shoulders with her and the Obamas at her lavish New York abode? Vomit.

As if that isn't bad enough, Anna Wintour threw her overpriced, haute couture hat into the ring with this video touting the same event and encouraging people to vote for the man who allegedly created 4 million more jobs. Righttttt

The ice queen of Vogue will also be hosting the fundraiser along with the insufferable "Carrie Bradshaw". Having worked for someone in the fashion industry and witnessing how the superiors treat people they perceive as beneath them was quite eye opening for me. This gem is supposed to be exceptionally brutal in an industry in which common decency and treating assistants, secretaries and anyone underneath you with even a modicum of kindness is not "in vogue". So going into this, I already pretty much hated her too. Watching this video gave me a headache. She appears to have the shakes or be on something. Very strange.

Ever since watching the documentary "Poliwood" (Don't watch it- so awful) in which the role celebrities play in politics is uncovered, the way I see their role has changed. Susan Sarandon made a very interesting point in the midst of all of her annoying liberal agenda pushing. She said she was offended that Americans resented celebrities for lending their names to political candidates and causes because they had the luxury to go with what they believed rather than how their vote would effect them in the economic sense. While I hate to admit it, I see what she means. Whereas I am a supporter of gay marriage, I cannot support a candidate that will allow the economy to tank right as I enter the job market. Were I a celebrity with virtually unlimited funds, I would possibly be more inclined to support someone for ideological reasons rather than economic ones. But at the same time I cannot get behind that reasoning. The Prada wearing devil and horse face can endorse a candidate that has despite his pledge to decrease the national deficit, increased it greatly and has NOT created 4 million jobs.  However, the average American who depends on job creation and on a prosperous economy to put food on their tables cannot stand behind a candidate that cannot provide this for them. They may make millions of dollars a year, but not everyone does. Hollywood's involvement in politics is a blatant example of elitism as they believe that because they are above economic quibbles, they are a more enlightened group better equipped to make ideological decisions and that because of their social stature that the common voter should follow their lead.

Obama Denies Veterans Access to Vietnam Veterans Memorial

On Memoral Day President Obama stated that he felt Vietnam veterans had not received the respect due to them and that he wanted to fix that. However, he did not takes steps to right that wrong on the day designated to honor America's fallen heroes and all who have served our country. The following is an email I received today in regards to his speaking engagement on Monday. Sickening. Truly sickening. When you go to cast your vote in November, remember that this president denied veterans access to a monument erected to honor their brethren who lost their live in the line of duty and the sacrifices every soldier and their families must make.

"Today as I usually do each Memorial Day and Veterans Day, I joined my fellow Soldiers I served with in Vietnam to lay a wreath for our fallen at the Vietnam Veterans Wall. We always gather at 0903 hours at the Three Soldier’s Monument. There we meet for a while and talk, see how everyone is doing, if anyone needs help, introduce any new guys from out of town who are visiting, new guys who are joining us for the first time, introduce any members of our family or friends who have come with us, always followed by a few remarks about fellow members of the Blackhorse Regiment who had passed since we had last gathered and then we welcome each other home. Today after walking across Memorial Bridge and rounding the Lincoln Memorial I saw our guys all gathering outside of a barricade around the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. When I joined them I found out to my total disbelief that we could not enter. No veterans allowed. The reason was that Obama was coming there to make a speech and the area was closed to everyone except special people with special passes until his speech was over 5 hours later. I was stunned. Thousands of Vietnam veterans gathering like us with wreaths in hand to recognize our fallen and turned away so that a politician could give a speech. Most of us had been there when Reagan spoke, Bush 41 and 43 had spoken, even Clinton, although most of us turned our backs on him in one of the largest, silent protests ever...seen by everyone...stinging in its impact...totally unreported by the media...but even then, we were not turned away. Today we were. I saw where in a poll where Obama is over 25 points behind Romney with Vets...if they all had seen what we experienced today and knew what had transpired, the spread would be much wider. I doubt if this will even be reported in the media. But, it should. This was not our was their day...the boys who lost their lives. But it was their brothers day to come and touch their names on the Wall and remember them. It was also Decoration Day...the day we recognize those who gave all for all of us. It was not about our narcissist president and his attempt to appeal to the Vietnam Vets for votes. Shut out, we met next to a hot dog stand under a shade tree and held our semi-annual ritual for our fallen. Later that day, one of our men stayed behind and saw to it that the wreath was placed at that section of the Wall when we lost the most during the war. We won every battle in that war and were denied victory. We had to listen to an illiterate world say that we had lost our war. Our troops suffered more degradation, insult, hatred, and disgust from our countrymen than all other US troops from all wars combined. We came home to a country that didn’t want us...and to many countrymen who loathed us...but yet we persevered. Today...was just one more cut...but it was a cut that will not heal any time soon.

The following are direct quotes from B.O. himself:

The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised "Meet The Press'.
From Sunday's 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, Televised "Meet the Press" the then Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
General Bill Gann' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
The General stated to Obama that according to the United StatesCode, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...
During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, "Stand and Face It".
'Senator Obama replied:
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides". "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression.." "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing."
Obama continued: "The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing'. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails - - - perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments ......"
When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations ofIslam, an unfair injustice which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past".
"Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family. Indeed,CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America "

Are you #$%^&@* kidding me?!

As if that is not sickening enough, might I remind you of this faux-pas on behalf of our "dignified" first lady.

Lady, it's not a "damn flag", but rather a symbol of the freedom that allows you to lead the ostentatious life you lead. However if you find the respect of this symbol to be too much I hear socialism is catching on in France.
